TIA
(inaugurated on July 2019)
TIA is a research hub operated by six institutions: the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), the University of Tsukuba, the Inter-University Research Institute Corporation High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), the University of Tokyo, and Tohoku University. In addition, with support from the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, we explore research and development activities that lead to open innovation.
Since its foundation in 2009, TIA has made significant achievements to contribute to the practice of open innovation in various research fields. During the third term, which began in 2020, we are further developing our efforts under TIA’s new vision of deeper insights to expand and reinforce our existing research platform to solve various social and industrial challenges through continuous open innovation. The new vision designates three priority fields of research and development: semiconductors (including IoT/AI processors and sensors), material data platforms, and optical/quantum measurement. We pursue innovation in these fields along with our existing activities in power electronics, MEMS, carbon nanotubes, nano-green, and biotechnology/healthcare. The addition of Tohoku University in 2020 as a core member is also promising for future cooperation. We hope that many industrial, academic, and governmental researchers will join TIA, which continues to grow, for ever greater innovation.
